The voice of UK tech startups

Supporting the AI Startup Community

Helping AI startups navigate policy, regulation and engage directly with policymakers

What We Do

AI is evolving and revolutionising the way we live, work and play and the government, regulators and policymakers are waking up to this reality. With an AI Opportunities Action Plan in place - laying the roadmap for the UK to become a world leader, there is a buzz of activity in every government department and within the regulators.

With so much going on it can be hard to keep up and figure out where it matters to engage. To help our startups navigate this brave new world where everyone is talking about AI, Startup Coalition has designed a new AI vertical bringing together some of the UK's most exciting startups operating in this space.

Becoming a supporter will help you digest what is coming out of policy circles and cut through to what matters. You'll be the first to know about policy developments that matter to you and get involved with the various events and functions we host to bridge the gap between the world of policy and startups.

2026 is set to be a big year and it is never too early to start planning ahead.

  • Prioritisation when it comes to the key issues we are advocating for

Key Issues We Fight For

We fight for the issues that matter to AI startups building in the UK.

Fighting for AI Startups

AI startups need a distinct policy voice. Too often, AI policy is shaped around incumbent capabilities and concerns - not the needs of founders building new applications, tools, and infrastructure. We know AI startups want to contribute to Britain's national capability. That means the government must support them by buying from them - building genuine AI sovereignty through a thriving domestic ecosystem.

Unlocking Compute and Infrastructure

AI startups can't train or deploy models without access to compute, energy, and data centres. That means reforming AIRR access, fixing energy planning bottlenecks, and exploring new policies to ensure startup-friendly capacity.

Getting Regulation Right

The Government has committed to a sector-specific, non-blanket approach to AI regulation. In this context, we want to ensure regulators understand the bottlenecks and challenges facing AI startups - and that they develop pro-innovation frameworks offering genuine operational certainty. Startups need sandbox access, clear liability rules, and proportionate requirements. Regulatory uncertainty is a competitive disadvantage for Britain.

Keeping AI Value in the UK

Building great AI startups isn't enough if they all exit or relocate for scale. That means improving growth capital availability, and making the UK the best place to scale - not just start.
